Waldorf Astoria opens at 73 Jalan Raja Chulan on 30 October 2026. The dinner I would book before the room is already open.
Kuala Lumpur at night: the Petronas Twin Towers at the left, KL Tower lit magenta in the centre, Merdeka 118 at the right. The new hotel on Raja Chulan sits down in Bukit Bintang, outside this frame.
That dinner is Dewakan. Darren Teoh, who has the only two Michelin stars in the Kuala Lumpur and Penang guide, a third year running, cooks at Skyviews on the 48th floor of Naza Tower, Platinum Park, 10 Persiaran KLCC. A Green Star sits beside the two. Dinner is Monday to Saturday from 6:00, and they are particular about the six. The first seating has to be gone by 8:45, because the second sitting needs those same tables. Cancel inside a day, or miss the table, and the card hold can become RM870 a person. Sunday they are closed. They also say the meal runs too long for children. The early sitting is already on a clock, so I believe them. Book on dewakan.my. The confirmation email is the reservation.
Beta is the walk-home dinner. Raymond Tham, the chef and co-owner, holds one star on the ground floor of Cormar Suites, 10 Jalan Perak, close enough to Raja Chulan that a dry evening is a walk. His Tour of Malaysia is listed at RM630 before service and tax. Allow about two and a half hours, and write forty-eight hours ahead if someone at the table cannot eat the menu as printed. The room runs Tuesday to Sunday from 6:00, until 11:00 on Friday and Saturday, and it is shut on Monday. Dewakan's night off is Sunday, so a short week can hold both, on different nights.
The two new one-stars, Akar and Terra Dining, are both out in Taman Tun Dr Ismail. The drive makes sense once the evening is about the kitchen. A last drink at Pavilion is a poor reason to be out in TTDI.
I would take the new Waldorf if Pavilion is the week and the date on the booking page is actually October. Two Hundred Sixty-Eight Suites on Raja Chulan has the tea room, the kitchens, and the rooms: 268 suites, the smallest about 80 square metres, on the plot where Hotel Istana closed in September 2021. The catch is the calendar. The hotel says 30 October, and much of what you can actually book has been sitting in early January 2027. Look at the date the site hands you before you tell anyone you are there for the opening. The covered walk through Bukit Bintang keeps that evening dry as far as Pavilion.
Mandarin Oriental is the bed I would take when the towers have to be in the glass. The address is Kuala Lumpur City Centre, 50088, on the park, and a park view is a different room from a towers view. The park suite on their own page is 82 square metres. After Dewakan you will mostly see those towers from the car. Pay for the window if you will still be upstairs while they are lit. Suria KLCC, the mall underneath, belongs to that morning.
The RuMa is where I would sleep if I want both sides of the triangle and a smaller house. It is at 7 Jalan Kia Peng. Rumah is the Malay for home, and the hotel's 2025 factsheet counts 253 rooms. The same sheet puts the airport at about an hour by car and KL Sentral at about twenty minutes. Eat at ATAS, in the building, on a night you are done crossing town.
The Islamic Arts Museum is the morning away from either mall. It is on Jalan Lembah Perdana, by the Lake Gardens and the old railway station. Tatreez, a show of Palestinian embroidery, runs there from 19 June 2026 to 25 April 2027, on the ordinary ticket. The exhibition page says the door is open 9:30 to 6:00. The Department of Museums still prints 9:00 to 5:00, so trust the clock on the door that morning. Before you build a week around the show, check the closures: the first two days of Hari Raya Aidilfitri, and of Aidiladha. Adult admission is widely listed at RM20. Confirm the price, and go by Grab. Pasar Seni looks close on a map and is a hot walk at noon.
The street wall of the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia, Jalan Lembah Perdana: geometric tile, the museum's gold mark, and the name in Malay and English. Tatreez, on Palestinian embroidery, is inside through 25 April 2027.
Practical notes
The clean way in is the KLIA Ekspres to KL Sentral, and then a car. Even the train is arguing with itself. The fare page still says a service every twenty minutes and twenty-eight minutes to Terminal 1. The timetable that took effect on 21 March 2026 prints thirty-five minutes. Read the sheet for the day you land. Raja Chulan, Jalan Kia Peng, and KLCC are all a Grab from Sentral once the rain starts.
If the week goes north, The Banquet Guide to Penang is the other city. Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week Has Outgrown the Emerging Market Compliment is there when the trip is about clothes.
