Tokyo Fashion Week rarely hands the closing slot to a brand that is two years old. On 21 March 2026, Yuka Kimura took it anyway.

Her label, Mukcyen (pronounced muh-shan), closed Rakuten Fashion Week TOKYO’s Fall/Winter 2026 schedule with 在 (zai); formed, a collection built on Marie Antoinette’s stripped roles and Franz Kafka’s Metamorphosis. The thesis lands for Banquet readers who already live between titles: influencer, planner, daughter, designer. What remains when the costume comes off? Kimura’s answer, luckily, is clothes you can buy on Jinnan.

“The roles given to me from the outside caused me a lot of internal conflict, and I wondered what was the right way to be, or how I should play a certain role.”

Dual Awards, Fujian Roots, Yohji Years

Kimura was born in Tokyo in 1998, spent early childhood in Fujian, and resettled in Japan as a teenager. The brand name is a coined reading of her surname’s Chinese pronunciation, mù cūn (木村): abstract on purpose, waiting for the history she builds into it. After Bunka Fashion College, she spent roughly four years in planning at Yohji Yamamoto, working textile and graphic, then launched Mukcyen in 2023 under SOHKI, the company behind menswear label M A S U. Debut season was Autumn/Winter 2024–25. She also carries an influencer following of about 200,000 as @gemmalzr, which is both distribution and pressure. We’ll be blunt: the industry loves a China-to-Tokyo biography until the clothes have to clear a rack.

The awards came fast. JFW NEXT BRAND AWARD 2026 Grand Prix funded her first runway and a second, with venue support, show photography, and overseas buyer meetings baked into the prize. TOKYO FASHION AWARD 2026 put her on the Marais showroom circuit. Spring/Summer 2026, Emergency Sensual, opened the September week at Shibuya Hikarie in second-skin cupro and harnesses; Vogue’s first review already treated the clothes as serious design. Fall closed the official March schedule six months later. In between, showroom.tokyo in Paris (5–10 March 2026) and a concurrent pop-up at Marais concept store Elevastor showed the Antoinette season to European buyers before Tokyo saw the lights. Tokyo-born, China-rooted, trained in Yohji’s fabric discipline, already testing Paris while keeping Shibuya stockists honest: that is the profile worth shopping before the next buyer week writes the international caption. For the longer Japanese laboratory that made Yohji possible, keep The Tastemakers: Japan open. For how diaspora designers elsewhere turn split geography into wardrobe grammar, How Prabal Gurung Dresses the Diaspora Idea of Home is the New York cousin.

What Formed Actually Puts on the Body

Black coat cinched with a corset over white ruffles, with pannier structure visible under sheer layers, Mukcyen Fall 2026
Mukcyen Fall 2026 at Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo: black coat, corset cinch, white jabot, and pannier bones under sheer layers. Court vocabulary rewritten as night clothes. Photography by Umberto Fratini / GoRunway.

The opening look is the one on the hero: all-white floral lace, a ruffled collar, balloon sleeves, a soft waist tie, chunky white heels against charcoal curtains. Rakuten’s own close report called it the innocent court chapter before society sands it down. Vogue’s Ashley Ogawa Clarke, reviewing the show, praised how Kimura wrangled rococo into “wearable, buyable clothing”: cream velvet hoodies shaped with shoulder pads, stomach-baring lace pirate shirts, tailored jackets slashed at the sternum into capes. Mid-show, tall wool caps like British bearskins landed over lace veils and wide trousers. Fabric is the quiet flex. A body-conscious black gown pulled asymmetric folds across the chest. White cotton jacquard trousers took their ripple from a shrinking process. The Skin Fit series closed in practical black that still reads as evening.

Skip the full Antoinette cosplay unless that is your actual social life. Buy the edit: one sternum-cut jacket or cape over black trousers; the cream hoodie under a wool coat; lace as a shirt rather than a wedding veil; the corseted coat if your calendar still includes museum dinners. Kimura told Vogue she is adapting court dress to the modern era in her own way. Trust the adaptation more than the history lecture.

Shop It on Jinnan Before the Next Paris Week

The next showroom.tokyo Paris dates for this TFA cohort are already on the calendar for 1–6 October 2026 (Spring/Summer 2027). That is the window when buyers write the international chapter. Your window is earlier and closer.

Start at MIDWEST Tokyo, Mukcyen’s official door in Jinnan at 1-6-1, a short walk from Shibuya’s Hachiko exit. Published hours run Monday–Saturday 12:0020:00, Sunday and holidays 11:0019:00; confirm on store-midwest.com before you go. Recent MIDWEST tickets for the brand have sat roughly in the ¥20,000¥60,000 band for tops, pants, and corsetry depending on piece; treat those as planning ranges, and recheck before you budget a look. Then walk to Shibuya PARCO for STUDIOUS and NUBIAN on the third floor, and, if you still have legs, ROYAL FLASH on Jingumae. Online, mukcyen.com is the brand source of truth for what has landed from Fall.

Pair the afternoon with Tokyo Department Store Dressing if you want Isetan’s buyer-floor grammar after select-shop chaos. For the fair-circuit cousin of how Asian labels meet overseas buyers, Buyers Meet Asian Labels at CENTRESTAGE stays useful. Mukcyen’s wager is simpler: the Antoinette story only matters if the jacket clears a Shibuya evening. Try it on Jinnan while Tokyo still owns the close.
