Azumi Setoda
Contemporary ryokan on Ikuchijima in the Seto Inland Sea, opened 1 March 2021 by Adrian Zecha’s Azumi brand inside the 1876 Horiuchi merchant estate at 269 Setoda. Kyoto architect Shiro Miura designed 22 rooms (about 50–70 m²) with hinoki baths and private gardens or balconies; yubune across the street is the free guest sento plus a lighter 14-room annex. The MICHELIN Guide lists the property with One Key; chef Kenya Akita’s Setouchi French dinner is the meal to lock with the ferry. Walk Kosanji Temple and the Hill of Hope (typically 9:00 to 17:00, last entry 16:30), about ten minutes from Setoda Port. Use yubune across the street for a second soak, rent a bike toward Sunset Beach and the Tatara Bridge, and check ferry return times to Onomichi before dinner. Overview Coffee at SOIL Setoda near the port is the practical caffeine stop when open.
Pro Tip: Book dinner on the same confirmation as the room, and do not arrive Tuesday or Wednesday if the in-house Setouchi course is why you came; the dining room closes those nights and island alternatives fill when the ferry crowd lands.
