Onomichi

Onomichi is Hiroshima Prefecture’s harbour town and the Honshu gateway to the Shimanami Kaido cycling route across the Seto Inland Sea. Temple slopes, retro shopping streets and short ferry hops set the pace in town; Ikuchijima’s Setoda, roughly midway along the Kaido and known for lemon groves, art stops and Kosanji, is an easy overnight or day extension by bike, bus or boat. Rent bikes where you start riding, check ferry return times, and allow slower miles when heat or bridge wind picks up.
