The Banquet note
DESIGNART TOKYO began in 2017 under the DESIGNART TOKYO Committee, founded by Akio Aoki (MIRU DESIGN), Shun Kawakami (artless), Hiroshi Koike (NON-GRID), Okisato Nagata (TIMELESS), and Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham (Klein Dytham architecture). The standing concept, Into the Emotions, treats beauty and function as shared language across interiors, art, fashion, technology and craft. The 2026 edition is the tenth, themed Hibiki (resonance), and runs ten days from 30 October to 8 November across Ginza, Roppongi, Omotesando, Harajuku, Shibuya, Daikanyama and Ikejiri. Organizers cite cumulative attendance near 250,000 across earlier editions; treat that as historical scale rather than a 2026 forecast.
The main venue for 2026 sits on the decommissioned Tokyo Expressway KK Line between Sukiyabashi and Tokyo Kotsu Kaikan, where architecture studio ALTEMY (Eri Tsugawa) installs a roughly 2,000-square-metre temporary structure called AUTOBAHN, open only from 30 October to 3 November. The name borrows the German Autobahn as a NO LIMIT metaphor for design without category speed limits. After those five days, keep walking the satellite map: Omotesando and Gaienmae for gallery density, Ginza for the infrastructure story, Daikanyama and Ikejiri for quieter project rooms. Pair mornings at Nezu Museum or a depāto floor with afternoon DESIGNART stops rather than stacking every district into one day.
Plan it well
Book Ginza or Omotesando lodging if the KK Line main venue is your priority; Shibuya or Daikanyama if you want evening walking after satellite shows.
