Kumiko Room
Kumiko Room is the omakase sushi counter that opened on 15 October 2026 at 135 West 42nd Street, inside the Bank of America Tower, with its own website and its own Resy page. The name is kumiko, the wood lattice used in the room. Chef Yoshihiko Kousaka spent 11 years as head sushi chef at Jewel Bako, according to Michelin's 2019 New York guide announcement, then opened Kosaka, which that edition awarded one star. Kosaka remains in the guide under Masatomo Soma, who apprenticed under Kousaka. The star stayed with that room. Robb Report, on 3 October 2026, described a $325 seasonal omakase: three small plates, 10 to 14 pieces of nigiri, soup, and dessert, including striped jack and bluefin tuna marinated five hours in bonito broth, soy sauce, and Japanese cooking wine. Kousaka told the magazine he was returning to an older omakase built on rice and fish. Crain's also described about 20 seats at tables beside the 14 at the counter, so ask which seats you are holding. The floor belongs to KwangHo Lee's Listen & Feel group and sits beside the 60-seat kaiseki restaurant One Bryant Park, which takes a separate reservation. Hours were not posted on kumikoroom.com on opening day. Book on Resy under Kumiko Room and read the times there. Kappo Sono, the third room at this address, was not seating yet.

While you're there
The counter shares a tower with the kaiseki dining room at the same street number. Bryant Park and the New York Public Library are a short walk east, toward Fifth Avenue. The B, D, F, and M stop at 42nd Street-Bryant Park. For another reserved New York tasting on a different night, Oyatte is at 125 East 39th Street.
Pro Tip: Ask whether the booking is one of the 14 counter seats or a table beside them. The $325 omakase Robb Report described is the counter menu, and a shared street number with One Bryant Park makes the wrong room an easy mistake.
- Best for
- A 14-seat omakase counter when you want nigiri more than the kaiseki room.
- Pair with
- One Bryant Park on a different night.
