Capella Kyoto
Capella’s first Japan hotel, opened 22 March 2026 in Miyagawa-cho at 130 Komatsu-cho, Higashiyama. Kengo Kuma and Brewin Design Office shaped an 89-key, four-storey machiya sequence around a courtyard beside the Kaburenjo and opposite Kennin-ji. Rooms start at 50 square metres; six Onsen Suites add private bathing. Dining runs Lanterne, Yoi, and SoNoMa by SingleThread. Book through capellahotels.com; phone +81 75 541 8877 or reservations +81 75 330 6030. Gion-Shijo Station is about a four-minute walk.

While you're there
Miyagawa-cho puts Kennin-ji and the Kaburenjo outside the door. Walk temple mornings early, keep SoNoMa as its own dinner booking, and treat Park Hyatt Kyoto as the southern Higashiyama contrast when you want Kodai-ji slope geography instead of Capella’s courtyard square.
Pro Tip: Ask for Premier Theatre or Premier Temple by name when you book; the generic deluxe category will not guarantee the Kaburenjo or Kennin-ji outlook you thought the address promised.
- Best for
- A Capella Japan debut when the machiya arrival sequence is the brief.
- Pair with
- Park Hyatt Kyoto for a contrasting Higashiyama arrival grammar.
- Season / timing
- Cherry blossom and autumn foliage weeks fill first; SoNoMa closed Sunday and Monday.
