The Banquet note
Tokyo Gendai launched in 2023 under The Art Assembly, co-founded by Sandy Angus, Tim Etchells and Magnus Renfrew, with Eri Takane as fair director. The fourth and final Pacifico Yokohama edition ran from 11 to 13 September 2026 (VIP preview 10 September) with 69 galleries, per the fair's closing release. The fifth edition relocates to Ariake GYM-EX at 3-11-1 Ariake, the former Tokyo 2020 gymnastics venue now managed within the Tokyo Big Sight complex, with public days from 5 to 7 November 2027 and VIP Preview and Vernissage on 4 November. Renfrew has framed the November shift as a way to sit inside the same autumn window as Art Week Tokyo and Art Collaboration Kyoto.
Treat Ariake as a fairground day and central Tokyo as another. Yurikamome and Rinkai Line stops serve the waterfront better than romanticising a walk from Ginza. Keep one clear block for the hall's roughly 9,400 square metres of exhibition floor, then give gallery neighbourhoods or museum appointments their own half-day. Watch Art Week Tokyo's 2027 dates once published; the fair's point in moving is coincidence with that citywide week, not another isolated Yokohama weekend.
