The Banquet note
Art Jakarta began in 2009 as Bazaar Art Jakarta under MRA Media, took its current name in 2017, and has operated from JIExpo Kemayoran since 2024 after earlier years at Pacific Place and Jakarta Convention Center. Fair Director Tom Tandio and Artistic Director Enin Supriyanto have steered the repositioning toward a Southeast Asia-focused international fair that stays embedded in Indonesia’s own ecosystem rather than treating Jakarta as a satellite stop. The 2026 flagship sits after February’s Art Jakarta Papers and May’s Art Jakarta Gardens in the organiser’s three-chapter year.
The official 2026 site lists 73 galleries across Asia for the October fair, with VIP Preview and Vernissage on 2 October and public days on 3 and 4 October. Soften sales and attendance claims until post-fair figures appear. Use the fair as the Kemayoran spine, then give Museum MACAN a separate West Jakarta block rather than forcing a same-day hop through traffic. Recent editions have emphasised Korean and wider Asian participation without abandoning the Indonesian majority; confirm the final floor map when tickets open on 17 September.
Plan it well
Base near Menteng, Sudirman or a Kemayoran-adjacent hotel and treat West Jakarta museum time as its own transfer. Buy tickets after 17 September on artjakarta.com. Leave Friday afternoon for Preview or Vernissage only if credentials or vernissage tickets are confirmed; otherwise plan a full Saturday public day.
