Hotel The Mitsui Hakone

Hotel The Mitsui Hakone opens on 15 December 2026 at 450-1 Kowakudani, on about 14 hectares inside Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, where Mitsui family villas once stood. All 126 rooms have a private onsen fed from the property's own source, plus a balcony or terrace. Forty-three are deluxe rooms of 48 square metres. Five villa keys, including the 217-square-metre signature villa, add an open-air bath. The shared thermal spring faces Mount Sengen and is taken in a swimsuit, which is a different ritual from a Hakone ryokan. Manabu Kusui, who ran Hotel The Mitsui Kyoto through summer 2025, is the first general manager. Hiroshi Takahashi is executive chef. Yabu Pushelberg designed the interiors, and Takenaka built the hotel. Sankei, the Japanese restaurant, seats 64 across kaiseki, sushi, teppanyaki, and a private room. Riverine does the breakfast buffet and a grill dinner. The Bar Lambent pours Japanese whiskey. A Grand Tour pairs a suite here with a suite at the Kyoto hotel, station cars included. Reservations have been open since 15 July 2026. Kowakidani Station is about a two-minute walk to the entrance, and the hotel drives guests up the grounds to the main door. Book on weekdays from 9:00 to 18:00. Rates move by date, so take them from the hotel site. Hakone Suishoen, the 1925 Mitsui villa at 519-9, is a different address.
