The Banquet note
Dubai Design Week began in 2015 inside a district built for studios rather than a tent dropped on a lawn. Art Dubai Group organises the festival with Dubai Design District and support from Dubai Culture, spreading exhibitions, workshops and commissions through d3’s working buildings. The mix is the point: West, South and East Asian practices meeting African, European and Gulf clients in the same walkable grid. Early November is still warm outdoors and fiercely air-conditioned inside, so dress for both.
Use the week in three layers. Downtown Design, running from 4 to 8 November, supplies the commercial view of furniture, interiors and materials. Abwab shifts the register toward culturally rooted work from Asia and Africa; its 2026 edition, In Other Words, examines language through a shared visual, spatial and sonic exhibition. Urban Commissions and outdoor installations turn the district itself into the third venue. Designer names, talks, hours and tickets will follow on dubaidesignweek.ae.
Plan it well
Stay in Downtown Dubai or Business Bay for a practical route to d3. The nearest metro connection requires a transfer from Dubai Mall/Burj Khalifa station to the D03 bus; a taxi is the simpler alternative. Early November remains warm outdoors, while interiors are strongly air-conditioned. Frieze Abu Dhabi follows later in the month on Saadiyat; treat that as a second trip, not a same-week hop.
