Why it is here

Awa Odori is living hospitality expressed through movement: disciplined groups, distinctive dress and music, and a city that temporarily reorganizes itself around collective participation. It gives ritual and performance the same seriousness the calendar gives fairs and salons.

Plan it well

Book Tokushima accommodation before selecting performance tickets; rooms disappear faster than many reserved seats. Paid stands provide a clear view of established groups, while open street areas preserve the festival’s participatory character.

A special stage programme begins on 11 August; the principal city festival and dance venues run from 12 to 15 August.
