The Banquet note
ART021 was founded in 2013 by Bao Yifeng, Kelly Ying and David Chau, taking its name from Shanghai’s telephone area code and a 21st-century contemporary brief. After early Bund-area editions, the fair settled at the Shanghai Exhibition Center in Jing’an, and the 2026 edition is scheduled for 12 to 15 November. Recent editions have mixed Main Galleries with Approach, Detour, Beyond and special projects, bringing Chinese and international galleries into a single Soviet-neoclassical hall during Shanghai’s autumn art week. Wait for the 2026 exhibitor list before locking a booth-by-booth plan.
Treat ART021 and West Bund Art & Design as a paired itinerary rather than rivals. West Bund holds the river corridor from 10 to 15 November; ART021 sits inland in Jing’an across overlapping mid-November days. Stay near Jing’an Temple station for the Exhibition Center, then keep a separate half-day for Longteng Avenue museums. Confirm WeChat reservation and ticket windows closer to November, and do not assume one badge covers both fairs.
Plan it well
Book Jing’an lodging for ART021 and a Xuhui or French Concession base for West Bund. Confirm ART021 ticket release on official WeChat and art021.org channels; leave buffer for cross-city traffic between the two fair districts.
