Tokyo's citywide contemporary-art week maps galleries, museums and curated AWT FOCUS projects into five November days, with free buses holding the sprawl together.

The Banquet note
Art Week Tokyo launched in 2021 under Japan Contemporary Art Platform, co-founded by gallerist Atsuko Ninagawa of Take Ninagawa and collector Kazunari Shirai, in collaboration with Art Basel and with support from Japan's Agency for Cultural Affairs. The 2026 edition runs from 4 to 8 November across a record 55 venues: 32 galleries, 13 institutions and 10 AWT FOCUS spaces. AWT FOCUS, the week's curated selling platform since 2023, expands this year into ten curator-led projects at ten Tokyo spaces, developed with Vienna's curated by initiative and selected by Misako Rosen of Misako & Rosen and Raphael Oberhuber.
Plan neighbourhoods, not a checklist. Free AWT Buses run every fifteen minutes from 10:00 to 18:00 on 6 to 8 November and are the practical spine of the week; pick up a daily wristband at your first stop. Keep one block for Roppongi gallery buildings, another for whatever FOCUS route you choose, and leave museum tickets separate. Art Collaboration Kyoto's public days open at ICC Kyoto on 7 to 9 November, so decide early whether Kyoto is a same-week add-on or its own trip. Plan it well
Base in Roppongi or central Tokyo for bus transfers, not a distant airport hotel. Use the free AWT Bus on public days rather than stacking taxis between every neighbourhood. If ACK is also on the itinerary, sleep one night in Kyoto instead of day-tripping both cities.
