Temple of Literature
The Temple of Literature, Van Mieu Quoc Tu Giam, is the Confucian temple and old imperial academy on Quoc Tu Giam Street. The entrance the site prints is 58 Quoc Tu Giam. Daytime hours are 8:00 to 5:00 every day. The adult ticket is 70,000 dong. Students at schools in Vietnam, visitors 60 and over, and some disabled visitors pay 35,000 dong if they have the documents. Children under 16 are free. An evening programme runs Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday from 6:00 to 10:00, and it is a separate ticket. The daytime price does not include it. One listed exit is at 19 to 21 Van Mieu, which puts you on the street where Gia, the one-star restaurant, sits at number 61. Cover your shoulders for the shrines. The grounds are several courtyards. A wet brick path and a white gate with red doors are the start, not the stone stelae further in. Go in the morning if you are eating at Gia that night, and go by Grab from Ngo Quyen or from Starlake. The walk looks short on a map and feels long at noon. Check vanmieu.gov.vn the week you go, because the evening programme is not the same product as the daytime door. A concierge who bundles the night show into a morning plan has sold you a second ticket. Look at the one in your hand.

Pro Tip: Buy the evening programme only if you want that night. A daytime ticket ends at 5:00 and does not convert into the Wednesday, Saturday, or Sunday show.
