Eastern & Oriental Hotel

All-suite luxury hotel at 10 Lebuh Farquhar, founded in 1885 by the Sarkies brothers and the only seafront hotel inside the George Town UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Heritage Wing reopened in December 2019 after restoration; the Victory Annexe (2013) offers more contemporary suites on the same campus. Expect service charge, SST, and tourism tax on top of quoted suite rates; peak surcharges apply around Chinese New Year and year-end. Book Heritage Wing sea-view suites when atmosphere is the priority, and use the hotel as a walking base for Fort Cornwallis, the Clan Jetties, and Bishop Street dining.

While you're there

Farquhar Street faces the harbour promenade, so dawn seafront walks are easy before the heat. Continue into heritage lanes toward Seven Terraces and Pinang Peranakan Mansion. Confirm which wing you are in; the historic and newer buildings feel different.

Pro Tip: Ask which building your confirmation assigns, heritage wing or newer block, before you arrive; Farquhar Street check-in staff will not fix expectations if you wanted timber corridors and got a modern corridor instead.

Best for
A harbour-front George Town stay with sea promenade mornings.
Pair with
Heritage lanes toward Seven Terraces.
Season / timing
Year-end and Chinese New Year weeks fill Farquhar Street rooms first.
