City Palace Museum
The City Palace Museum sits inside the palace complex at the centre of Jaipur's 1727 grid, and it is still partly a royal residence. The museum, established in 1959, opens 9:30 to 6:30 and closes only on Dhulandi, the second day of Holi. Citypalace.org lists an adult ticket at 400 rupees, with concessions for students, children, and seniors. A composite at 500 rupees adds Jaigarh and the royal cenotaphs. Gate 1 is beside the Jantar Mantar ticket counter. Gate 2, at Jaleb Chowk, is the gate with parking. Badi Chaupar on the Pink Line is the useful metro stop. The textile gallery in Mubarak Mahal has been closed for restoration since 27 March 2026, and the site had not posted a reopening when this entry was checked, so ask before you buy a ticket for the cloth. Museum at Night was also marked temporarily closed. Pitam Niwas Chowk, with its four painted gates, is the courtyard people come to see, and it is inside the museum ticket. The royal tour of Chandra Mahal rooms still used by the family is a separate counter purchase, at a higher price, and it is not included in the 400-rupee admission. Golf carts are hired inside the complex. Wheelchair access exists at the major entrances. Go after Amer, not before it. The hill fort wants the cool hour. The palace can take the heat of the afternoon, provided you have a car back to Bhawani Singh Road or Sardar Patel Marg when the old city locks up.

While you're there
Jantar Mantar is the neighbour at Gate 1. Hawa Mahal is the street facade on the way in, worth ten minutes from the ground and a poor reason to skip the courtyards. Pink Line to Badi Chaupar if you are already in the old city.
Pro Tip: If the textiles were the reason for the ticket, ask at the gate whether Mubarak Mahal has reopened. It closed for restoration on 27 March 2026, and a full-price entry will not conjure the gallery back.
- Best for
- An afternoon in the palace courtyards after Amer.
- Pair with
- Amer Fort the same day, in the morning.
- Season / timing
- Open daily except Dhulandi. October to March afternoons are the kind hour.
