Amer Fort
Amer Fort, also called Amber Fort, is the palace-fort on the ridge about 11 kilometres north of Jaipur's walled city, above Maota Lake. It is one of the six properties in the Hill Forts of Rajasthan, a UNESCO serial site inscribed in 2013, and that listing is separate from the 2019 inscription of Jaipur City itself. The public route runs through Suraj Pol into Jaleb Chowk and on through Ganesh Pol toward the Sheesh Mahal and the palace courtyards. Map listings and Rajasthan tourism commonly put the gate at 8:00 to 5:30. Incredible India has published a later window, so read the state page the week you go rather than trusting a saved screenshot. From 1 January 2026 the archaeology department raised tickets for state monuments. Local reporting put the foreign adult general ticket at 1,000 rupees and the Indian adult ticket at 200, and described a composite ticket valid for ten days. Buy on the official OBMS portal and read which monuments that composite names before you assume Hawa Mahal or Nahargarh is included. Arrive at opening. By mid-morning the courtyards belong to the coaches. The Anokhi Museum of Hand Printing is a short walk down into Amber when the museum is open, and it is a separate ticket. Wear shoes you can climb in. A hotel car from Bhawani Singh Road or Goner Road is the sane way up. The Pink Line metro does not deliver you to the fort.

While you're there
Maota Lake is the view on the way up, and the Anokhi Museum at Kheri Gate is the walk down if it is not a Monday or the summer closure. Keep City Palace for the afternoon in the walled city, with a car between them.
Pro Tip: Be at the gate for the 8:00 opening. A 10:30 arrival is when the courtyards stop being yours, and no ticket price fixes that.
- Best for
- A first-light visit to the hill fort before the coaches.
- Pair with
- Anokhi Museum of Hand Printing on the walk down, when it is open.
- Season / timing
- October to March is the fair hour at opening. April to June wants the earliest gate.
