Chinese House, Sanssouci
Garden pavilion in Sanssouci Park designed by Johann Gottfried Büring for Frederick the Great between 1755 and 1764, with gilded palm-tree columns and life-size figures à la chinoise. One of the clearest surviving European court chinoiserie tea pavilions still open to visitors. SPSG typically opens May through October, Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 to 17:30, last entry thirty minutes before closing; closed Mondays in season and closed through the winter months. Walk from the Historic Mill visitor centre through Sanssouci Park; the Chinese House sits southwest of the main palace toward the Neues Palais end. Combine with Sanssouci Palace interiors only if you have booked those separately.
Pro Tip: Do not plan this stop November through April; the pavilion closes for winter, and the park walk alone does not replace the gilded exterior and porcelain-lined interior.
