Kingfisher

Modern Vietnamese cocktail bar and eatery in Golden Hill, opened 14 January 2022 by Kim Phan, Ky Phan, and Quan Le of Crab Hut. Executive chef David Sim leads a Vietnamese French California kitchen with shareable plates and a strong craft-cocktail program around a 23-seat circular bar designed by Ocio Design Group. The restaurant sits in the MICHELIN Guide California selection as a recommended Vietnamese contemporary room; confirm current distinction on guide.michelin.com. Book on Tock (exploretock.com/kingfishersd), call (619) 432-1014, and verify hours (often Wednesday–Monday evenings, closed Tuesday) and chef’s tasting pricing before you go.

While you're there

Kingfisher sits on Broadway in Golden Hill, a short ride from downtown hotels and a walkable evening from Balboa Park’s south edge. Plan South Park or Golden Hill for a pre-dinner stroll if you have daylight; after dinner, ride-hail rather than hunting street parking late. Pair with Convoy or City Heights Vietnamese markets only if you want a daytime contrast, not the same night.

Pro Tip: Reserve the circular bar on Tock when you want the cocktail program and a shorter table; walk-in high-tops disappear after 7 p.m. on Fridays, and the kitchen often winds down before the bar does.

Best for
A reservation-led modern Vietnamese dinner with a serious cocktail bar in Golden Hill.
Pair with

Season / timing
Book early for Comic-Con week and major Balboa Park event weekends; midweek is easier.
